For nearly 150 years, between 1730 and 1880, the great noble and merchant houses of Europe were infatuated with Chinoiserie art and competed to create interiors with fantastical touches of the orient – that fed more upon imagination than reality. One of the best examples of Italian Chinoiserie in this period, came from the brush of Giandomenico Tiepolo and is entitled “The Chinese Fabric Merchant”. These panels loosely derive from the art work that Tiepolo created for the Villa Valmarana in Vicenza, and can work on an accent wall, or as a framed triptych.
A fourth panel can also be added to this design in order to accommodate longer walls.
