The South Pacific design is an adaptation of designer Charvet’s original depiction of the explorations of Captain Cook. The panels show many historical events loosely based on the reports of James Cook, and include depictions of the native islanders in Tahiti, Hawaii, Tonga, Easter Island and New Zealand (Māori). Some of the images were based on drawings made by members of Captain Cook’s crew and some were the fantasy of Charvet when he sketched the designs in 1806.
